Q: What should I bring to Science each day?
A: You should bring two sharpened pencils, your homework planner, your daily homework and your Interactive Science Notebook. Q: What should I not bring to Science? A: Snacks--no food or drinks are allowed in the lab. Q: How often will I have homework? A: Homework will be assigned almost every day as long as it is not the day before a weekend or holiday. Q: What if I forget what the homework assignment is? A: You are expected to write your homework assignment into your planner each day so you can check there. If you are absent or don't have the assignment for another reason, you should call a reliable classmate to find out. Q: Is the homework hard? A: It will depend on the assignment and your daily participation. Sometimes you will simply need to tape pages into your notebook or draw and color a title page for a new unit. Other times you will be asked to organize your thoughts on class and write a detailed reflection. Q: How much time should I expect to spend on nightly (due the next day) Science homework? A: Typical nightly assignments are designed to take the average student about 10-15 minutes to complete. A little bit longer or shorter than that is okay too. Please see me if you are spending 30 minutes or more on any nightly assignments. Longer projects and reflections will require more time and you will have more than one night to complete them. Q: What do I do if I am absent from class? A: First, copy your missed assignments and any daily notes from a reliable classmate. After you have done those things, show them to me and I will provide you with any materials you might need to catch up. Your daily Targeted Instruction Block is a great time to catch up on missed work! Q: How do I get a good grade in science? A: Complete your assignments on time, participate in class activities and discussions, try your best and ask questions. You will receive rubrics in class for your Interactive Notebook and other assignments. Use them to self assess! |
